Regional District of Fraser-Fort George sees building permit value reach 75-million in 2020

2020 turned out to be a pleasant surprise for the Regional District Fraser-Fort George on the topic of building permits.

In total, 301 permits were issued for a value of 75-million dollars, which blows away the 2019 dollar value for permits as it only reached 28-million.

Director, Art Kaehn spoke with MyPGNow.com.

“The construction industry has done an amazing job adjusting during the new reality. These stats have been boosted by activity on three major pipelines that are going up within the Regional District and are the main why the stats in 2020 are almost three times building permit values of 2019.”

“This is a very pleasant surprise as there has been some great work done by the Regional District staff working with pipeline companies and the construction industry, which has made 2020 a banner year within the Regional District.”

Kaehn added the Regional District has received 207-thousand dollars from Northern Development Initiative Trust to purchase 50 Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations.

In addition, the RDFFG received 747-grand from the COVID Safe Restart Grants for Local Governments by the province back in November.

One-hundred and sixty thousand of that were committed to expenses already incurred related to safety, technology, and operational costs associated with the pandemic.

The Board also approved the following requests for Community and Recreation Grants:

∙ $1250 to the Pilot Mountain Fire Fighter Club for volunteer appreciation

∙ $5000 to the Blackburn Elementary PAC for a digital radar sign

∙ $18,000 to the Willow River Volunteer Fire Department for operating expenses

∙ $2500 to the McBride Figure Skating Club for insurance
