PG hosts Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour

The Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour is coming to Prince George this weekend.

CN Centre Manager Glen Mikkelsen says the fun starts Saturday at noon with live bands and giveaways.

“The Scotiabank Hotstove takes place at 1:30 p.m. with Terra Sloan and NHL alumni Geoff Courtnall and Kirk McLean [Sunday],” he says. “At 4:30 p.m. the Rogers Hometown Hockey pre-game show with Ron MacLean will broadcast live from the CN Centre parking lot.”

That game is the Vancouver Canucks versus the Arizona Coyotes.

Mikkelsen is expecting a huge turnout.

“They’re telling me that in various communities, they’ve had up to 5,000 to 10,000 people come out and check out the caravan,” he says. “We will also have the various hockey games and tournaments taking place here in the Kin arenas and CN Centre.”

The Carbioo Cougars are playing their playoff games during the festivities and there will also be a free public skate at Kin 1 Sunday afternoon from 2 to 3 p.m., along with a slew of other events.

Some other fun family events to check out:

– The Dodge Stow’n’Go Challenge: A chance to win a Dodge Grand Caravan.

– Sportsnet’s Be a Broadcaster: Call a hockey play alongside Sportsnet Central anchor Evanka Osmak.

– Kids Zone mini-stick rink and a ball hockey rink with pick-up games and skills competitions.
