If a company plans to propose a mining operation in the Province they will now need to present several new additional information requirements.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mines, The Environmental Assessment Office now requires the extra information necessary for all proposed mining projects in BC, which includes a presentation of the best practices and best available technologies considered for tailings ponds.
A clear view of all potential risks and the implications of all considered options must also be technically and economically feasible, and a transparent plan to support the selected option must also be introduced before any steps can be taken towards approval.
