The Prince George RCMP will be launching its annual impaired driving campaign this week.
The campaign will officially begin with National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day this Saturday (December 5) and will run through the rest of the month.
Mounties will be increasing resources and focusing on road safety as the holiday season approaches.
Frontline officers will be targeting those persons that choose to drive while impaired either by alcohol or by other drugs.
“Another holiday season is upon us,” said Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP.
“Although this is not a typical season in many ways, impaired driving enforcement will be the same as usual. Our wish for every holiday season is that everyone arrives to their destination safely.”
According to ICBC, approximately 22% of vehicle fatalities are related to impaired driving, resulting in an average of 67 deaths in B.C. every year.
Officers utilize a variety of tools to help them detect and apprehend impaired drivers, including Approved Screening Devices, Standard Field Sobriety Testing, and Drug Recognition Experts.
If you witness an intoxicated person get behind the wheel or see a vehicle being driven in a dangerous or erratic manner, call 9-1-1 immediately.
