COVID-19 outbreak protocols set to be lifted at Dawson Creek care home

The first long term care home in Northern BC to report an outbreak of COVID-19 looks to be on the road to recovery.

Northern Health says outbreak protocols have been lifted in all but one unit at Rotary Manor in Dawson Creek.

To date, there have been a total of nine confirmed resident cases of COVID-19, and four staff cases.

Two residents have passed away from the virus since the outbreak was declared on November 2.

Northern Health has implemented enhanced control measures including cleaning, visiting restrictions, and enhanced staff and resident screening to help curb the spread.

Outbreak measures remain in place for the Special Care Unit, but the rest of the facility has been given the all-clear, as two 14-day incubation periods have passed without any exposures.

This means pre-arranged social visits can also resume for residents and families for most of the facility.

Public health officials will continue to monitor the Special Care Unit until the exposure risk period has passed.
