Largest campaign of the year underway for the Prince George Salvation Army

With the Christmas season approaching, the Salvation Army enters its biggest fundraising season of the year in Prince George.

Yesterday (13th), the PG Salvation Army began their ‘Kettle Campaign’, the largest campaign of the year used to fund its operations.

“This year our goal has not changed from last year, we are still looking to collect $250,000 over the Christmas season,” explained Major Neil Wilkinson, Head of PG Salvation Army.

However, due to the ongoing pandemic, this year they can only be at half of the locations they’re normally at.

“The money that we collect at Christmas time is how we fund our operating and in Prince George, our most expensive portion of how we support our community is through our food bank,” said Wilkinson.

The Salvation Army currently serves over 1,000 households in the community each month, the funding from the Kettle Campaign is imperative to the operation of the Food Bank year-round.

“Now we’re looking for help in the community, $250,000 is still an important part of our goal but we still need to make sure we’re engaging in the community in a way that keeps everybody safe,” said Wilkinson.
