Gas prices in PG dip close to a buck a litre

Prince George drivers are receiving a little break at the pumps as fuel prices dip slightly.

Costco is the least expensive place to buy gas at 101.9 cents a litre while the majority of stations in the northern capital are between 105.9 and 107.9.

Dan McTeague with Canadians for Affordable Energy recently spoke with MyPGNow.com.

“We could continue to see these lower than usual prices but this is an example of what happens when 10 to 15 percent of your economy is slowed down by underemployment or unemployment or businesses not being able to get back into the swing of things.”

In any case, local gas stations are operating under some tight margins.

“If you calculate the numbers, Costco is almost bang on to wholesale prices so yeah, it’s not a great time to be a gas station in PG right now. If you are lucky, you are getting five or six cents a litre and that should be enough to cover your overhead costs of the running the gas station itself.”

“Gas prices are very competitive here in Prince George obviously and in the surrounding area, as far as the crystal ball into where prices are going, one has to consider the fact markets are still far away from making a firm decision into what prices will look like,” added McTeague.

Dawson Creek has the lowest gas price in BC at 98.9 cents a litre.
