Remembrance Day will be going virtual this morning (Wednesday) in response to the pandemic.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43 will be live streaming the ceremony for residents to watch from home.
It will begin at 10:30 a.m. and wrap up around 11:30.
“We are doing our best considering the COVID problem,” said John Scott, a parade marshal for Legion 43.
The ceremony will be closed to the public, however, locals are asked to stand at the end of the driveway, on the balcony, or in your doorway at 11:10 am for two minutes of silence.
“That’s the way we are connecting with people. We have to do it electronically and through streaming. It’s kind of different, but it is unique and hopefully, a lot of people will be able to watch it,” Scott explained, “We are hoping people can participate by going to their driveways. That’s one way to participate.”
“It’s still going to be poignant, I think it will still be meaningful for everyone. Everyone has tried as hard as they can to make it good for this year.”
Those who would like to place a wreath or poppy at the Cenotaph may do so between 11:30 a.m – 1:00 pm, however, masks and social distancing are required.
As an alternative, at approximately 10:40 a.m., the live outdoor ceremony will be streamed through Blake Productions’ YouTube channel and through Branch 43’s Facebook page (Legion 43 PG).
The branch will also be open to the public from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with limited space available.
