Life saving transport ventilator system arrives in Mackenzie

Spirit of The North Healthcare Foundation provided the Mackenzie and District Hospital with a potentially life-saving transport ventilator system.

The system cost nearly $35,000 and after a $10,000 donation from Enbridge, the remainder was paid through donations to Spirit of the North.

At least 1-2 patients a month are transported from Mackenzie, the equipment can be used by pediatric and adult patients in respiratory distress.

Without a ventilator system, patients in respiratory distress require health care workers to ‘hand bag’ for the entire transportation process.

According to Spirit of the North, this technique is not ideal, as respirations are inconsistent.

Chief of Staff Mackenzie and District Hospital, Dr.Daniel Penman accounted many times where this was necessary to provide successful transport for patients requiring treatment at UHNBC.
