Transit buses in Prince George will soon be equipped with full driver doors to protect BC Transit operators.
“We’ve seen roughly 35 assaults annually across the province in the last 5 years,” said Jamie Weiss Senior Media Relations and Public Affairs advisor with BC Transit.
“These full driver doors will definitely improve the health and safety of both transit operators and their customers.”
The door is a movable barrier situated next to the driver’s seat that includes a transparent piece of laminated tempered glass.
They will be installed across PG buses over the next several days and will have no impact on service times.
BC Transit says community and handyDART buses in both the conventional and custom systems are keeping the old doors.
633 buses from 34 transit systems across BC will receive the doors before the end of September.
