Northern Sport Centre to reopen after nearly six month closure

After closing their doors back in mid-March due to COVID-19, the Northern Sports Centre is reopening on Monday.

The facility hasn’t been in operation since March 17th.

Manager, Craig Langille told MyPGNow.com why it took so long to get back up and running.

“Our decision was made by UNBC and so we had to get our guidelines to that sector, it would be a lot different let’s say if we were a facility like Goodlife or the YMCA.”

He added they reconfigured much of the building so it can facilitate the current health and safety guidelines.

“We’ve removed a lot of the equipment that is within space that is congested and we have relocated other stuff to the storage space or to other areas where there is more room, we have reduced capacity and a lot of our spaces and also reduced programming numbers.”

Capacity limits will be in place at many of its surfaces.

“When it comes to the track, to strengthen areas, the gymnasium or the field turf all of them will have different capacity and will be reviewed on a weekly basis.”

Users will also be required to clean the equipment before and after use.

Langille added the Fall 2020 fitness schedule is posted and classes start September 14th.

Masich Place Stadium among parks to undergo seasonal closure

Tomorrow (Friday) is the last day for public walking at Masich Place Stadium. In addition, Carrie Jane Grey Park and Connaught Hill Park will also be closed to vehicle traffic.
