32 high school students learned why “Heavy Metal Rocks” this week. A program with the same name had students learning how to operate heavy machinery, scaffolding, welding and other tips of the trades. BC Construction Association Vice President Abigail Fulton says the industry needs one in five students to go into the trades to fill job vacancies anticipated over the decade.
Fulton says current numbers have one in 35 students going into the trades. She says programs like “Heavy Metal Rocks” gives students a sense of what a career in the trades is like.
