Rustad encouraged by national round table

BC’s Minister of Aboriginal Relations isn’t sure this week’s round table discussion on missing and murdered Aboriginal women will result in an inquiry.
For the past two days, provincial representatives and Aboriginal groups met in Ottawa to discuss what needs to happen to prevent women from going missing or being killed.
John Rustad says while no inquiry has been set, it is encouraging.
“Because this is the first of its kind we’re talking about doing more of these,” says Rustad, “we’re talking about finding ways to make sure we give the families voices, and most importantly we’re talking about the actions that we need to be taking, so I think that is a good first step and certainly more work needs to be done.”
Rustad says the provincial government plans on making headway with its Violence Free BC project.
He says the groups plan on meeting again in a year to discuss progress.
