They accepted the award for the best program in a small institution for their “Early Explorers Preschool”.

Early Explorers Preschool was established in 2007 and is a licensed preschool program set within the museum and science centre.

It offers the only STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) preschool curriculum in Prince George.

Children in the program learn from curators, from Lheidli T’enneh Elders, plant container gardens, care for animals with the museum’s head keeper, and experience visits from other local experts.

The Exploration Place believes the Early Explorers Preschool is the only licenced preschool program of its kind in North America to exist within a museum or science centre.

“Prince George is a very special community,” said Tracy Calogheros, Exploration Place CEO.

“As our young students graduate from Early Explorers Preschool, they take with them the foundation for both cultural and scientific literacy.”
