Two Prince George breweries working to produce hand sanitizer

A pair of Prince George breweries are working together to help in the fight against COVID-19.

Trench Brewing and CrossRoads Brewing & Distillery have collaborated to share the cost of developing a method of making hand sanitizer locally.

“The government has granted in-term licencing to breweries and distilleries, so we took the opportunity to start producing it,” said Daryl Leiski, owner of CrossRoads.

“I’m also a physician and work in emerge, and a walk-in clinic… and there’s a huge need for hand sanitizer in the community and in front-line healthcare,” he added.

Leiski said he hoped to address the shortage of hand sanitizer and hopes to produce a thousand litres a week.

About half of the first batch, roughly 500 litres, will be donated to non-profits around the community.

When asked how it was made, Leiski replied: “it’s the World Health Organization recipe,” clarifying the product is made of three major ingredients.

He noted Canfor helped secure a supply of hydrogen peroxide.

Information on the sanitizer can be found on both Trench and CrossRoad‘s respective Facebook pages.
