Prince George’s Rotary Clubs and Kiwanis are partnering with the Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul Society to help provide food security during COVID-19.
“We sent out notices to all the members of the three Rotary Clubs in Prince George, to the Kiwanis, and our junior club… so they’ve been collecting things over the last couple of weeks,” explained event organizer Brian Leslie.
“We thought we would wait until the end of the day to deliver to Salvation Army and Saint Vincent de Paul, but we’ve had so many donations we’ve had to already deliver two loads – about a ton of food,” Leslie added.
Rotarian volunteers are aiding the two food banks by sorting and sanitizing donations in a space provided by Prince George’s Theatre Northwest.
Leslie says their efforts will ease some of the additional pressures placed on food bank volunteers during the pandemic.
