The Prince George Public Library hopes to offer more services to the public while still carefully following COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines.
Beginning on May 25th, Prince George residents will be able to request the curbside pick up of library materials.
Library patrons will be offered timeslots to pick up their reserved books and media.
Special safety measures will be employed, as library items will be isolated for 4 days before being handled by staff, and will be wiped down before being returned to library shelves.
“However, people should take normal precautions as with normal items they bring into their homes,” cautioned Amy Dhanjal, Community Coordinator for the Prince George Public Library.
The Bob Harkins branch is now accepting returns on Tuesday and Wednesdays, as 21,000 items still remain on loan throughout the community.
Although plans to gradually reopen both library branches are in place, there are no concrete dates for further services.
However, the shift to virtual programs has been largely successful, as Dhanjal explained the library is now offering nearly the same number of programs as before the pandemic:
“[Virtual programs] are actually a really great way to offer accessible programming for people that might be able to physically come into our branches, so I foresee us keeping virtual programs forever.”
Both Prince George Public Library branches closed on March 16th.
