In 2018, the City and School District 57 completed the first phase through the construction of a new playground and sports field at Ron Brent Elementary School.

Among the amenities promised at the new park:

  • paved trails with lighting
  • horseshoe pits and seniors fitness equipment
  • landscaping with irrigated lawn, trees, and site furnishings
  • a large garden

The park is located near Ron Brent Elementary School, the Connaught Youth Centre, Riverbend Seniors Manor, and Gateway Lodge.

Accessibility is a major focus of the new green space, which was designed with feedback from nearby residents, the elementary school, and other stakeholders.

The redevelopment project was brought about through the subdivision and sale of a 1.8 hectare portion of Ron Brent Park for the Riverbend Seniors housing development, where the City committed to improving the remaining 1.3 hectares.

Construction is expected to be complete by the end of August.
