Plenty of activity at the Winter Games’ French Quarter

There’s a lot going on down at the “The French Quarter” tent at Canada Games Plaza.

Executive Director Renee Trepanier of the Cercle des Canadiens Francais de Prince George says you can come in and learn more about the local French-Canadian community.

“We offer all kinds of services, we also feature delicious maple products, as well we are trying to promote our Francophone artist,” she says.

Francophone artist Marthe Collin is originally from Paris but moved to Prince George several years ago to teach easy and professional painting techniques, such as the masterpiece I created, seen above with FrancoFun mascot BonHomme (he’s on the left, obviously).

Trepanier says while their group is small in Prince George, they make up for their size with community involvement.

She says Quebecois visitors are surprised with the amount of French in the city and the number of people who can speak French in the area.

“They feel good to be here, I’ve met people from all over Canada and they are impressed with what we can accomplish and what’s to offer here in Prince George,” she says.

After 1 this afternoon, the “French Quarter” will feature a resident historian who will talk about French history, jig, and play the spoons.
