As temperatures continue to rise, so do the water levels in rivers and streams.
“Conditions can change rapidly so take time now to prepare your property, home and family in the event of flooding,” said Anita de Dreu, Emergency Services Coordinator with the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.
The Regional District recommends residents stay prepared including:
- maintaining personal emergency supply kits, including a grab-and-go kit
- keeping important papers in watertight containers
- paying attention to local media
- watching for warning signs like debris in creeks, water colour changes, and changes in intensity or height of water flow
- keeping a safe distance from the banks of rivers and streams, and fast flowing water
- consider making arrangements for pets
de Dreu acknowledged the special circumstances of preparing for an emergency in the midst of a public health crisis, encouraging the public to consider Covid-19 related restrictions when making emergency plans.
