A combination of efforts has led to a Prince George company providing 3D printed personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontline workers
The Metis Financial Corporation BC (MFCBC) is providing a forgivable loan to help Hollywood Fabricating Ltd. increase production of items used by frontline workers in the fight against COVID-19.
Owner, Dan Broadfoot, will use the money to purchase additional 3D printers and materials (filaments) to produce PPE like face shield frames, and two different types of surgical mask back-straps called “ear-savers”.
“Our Board of Directors saw immediately the benefits of supporting Dan as a Metis entrepreneur but also to support his effort to give back to the community,” said Evan Salter, the CEO of MFCBC
Hollywood Fabricating has been producing PPE for free in the past weeks, using its own resources and making them available to hospitals, care facilities, and first responders through Dr. Malgorzata “Mal” Kaminska and her husband Richard.
Dr. Mal mobilized her personal 3D printer, alongside the printers at both UNBC and the Two Rivers Art Gallery to help meet the growing demand for PPE.
Broadfoot’s company committed its six 3D printers and, with financial assistance from MFCBC, distributed PPE with Dr. Mal’s help.
She explained police forces have placed the largest requests for the nearly four thousand pieces of equipment created and distributed so far.
Metis Financial Corporation BC works to provide loans and grants to various Metis entrepreneurs through the province.
