The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Prince George after a man taken into custody was found to be suffering from serious injury.
Prince George RCMP responded to an alarm from a sporting goods store, known to sell ammunition, on the 1400 block of 3rd avenue at approximately 4:30 am on Sunday, April 12.
When police arrived, a man attempted to flee but was eventually apprehended following negotiations that spanned several hours.
The man was taken to the hospital for assessment and cleared, however, while in custody he went into medical distress.
He was taken back to the hospital, and upon examination was found to be suffering from a serious injury.
The IIO will investigate to determine what role, if any, the officers’ actions or inaction may have played into the serious harm of the male.
The IIO is asking for any person with information to contact the IIO Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477.
