Quesnel’s Billy Barker Days cancelled

This year’s Billy Barker Days Festival, normally held in Quesnel, has been canceled.

Organizers were holding out hope that a scaled-down festival would still be possible in the normal July 16th-19th calendar slot, but have now decided to pull the plug for safety.

“The decision is very easy to make because it is the obvious one in that we in no way want to hinder the work to protect against the virus. We would in no way put the Festival before the safety of people,” said President of the Billy Barker Days Society Janice McLean.

“It is a very sad day for the Society as well as for those that look forward to the Festival for their enjoyment or as an important source of income. It is a step that we have to take for the good of all,” she added.

McLean explained the Quesnel Billy Barker Days Society has been carefully watching the provisions and restrictions surrounding activities surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.

She explained the choice was made after learning Provincial Health Officer Doctor Bonnie Henry noted physical distancing will remain in place for ‘some time.’
