#Thankatrucker movement offers meals for PG truckers on road during pandemic

Canada’s Energy Citizens (CEC), an advocacy program from the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP), has teamed up with the BC Trucking Association to buy 100 meals for truck drivers in the Prince George area.

The initiative, scheduled for tomorrow (April 8), aims to thank truck drivers for ‘keeping Canada moving’ during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With a lot of the different rules that have come into play, businesses around the province have been forced to close in some cases, in order to undergo some retrofitting to become compliant with health and safety regulations,” said Jack Middleton, one of the organizers.

“In doing so that’s taken away a lot of opportunities for truckers to actually stop and get a meal, use the washroom or even shower.”

From the hours of 11 am till 7 pm drivers can head to the Chevron Cardlock and show their commercial driver’s license to order food provided by Smokey J’s Smoked MMMeats.

In order to maintain proper physical distancing during the event, plexiglass shields have been installed on the food truck and patrons will be required to stand six feet apart in the line-up.

“There will be an opportunity to order using a speaker, and then the food will be put out on the counter and it will be picked up without having to touch or exchange,” said Middleton.
