As the pandemic continues to put pressure on the healthcare system, many medical workers are worried about a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other supplies.
Provincially, a website called Supplyhub has just been launched, and it works in conjunction with existing provincial procurement streams.
In Northern Health, there is an email address set up to deal with donations within the health authority, [email protected].
These venues deal with everything from masks and other PPE to things like cleaning supplies.
“That helps us better be able to manage the requests and the offers that are coming in but also gives us an opportunity to figure out if the offers can actually be used in our healthcare settings,” said spokesperson Eryn Collins.
“At the very minimum, any donated items would have to be unused and unopened. We are not accepting homemade items at this time,” said Collins.
Anyone who has donations that meet these criteria is asked to not drop them off at any Northern Health facilities without permission.
“In recent weeks there has been a dramatic increase in the use of PPE supply around the province and nationally, and even at a federal level there definitely have been some challenges,” said Collins.
“Despite those challenges, we do continue to receive a supply of personal protective equipment and there are measures that have been put in place to control the use of PPE and ways to be more efficient with the current stock that we have,” she added.
