Prince George Citizen publisher departing after 29 years

The long time publisher of the Prince George Citizen, Colleen Sparrow, has announced she will be leaving the paper.

Sparrow, a new grandmother, told staff her last day with the publication is planned for April 17.

She says she will miss her role, but it’s time for her to see what else is out there.

“It’s the right decision, they will be just fine, we have set them up in a perfect position to move forward in this changing environment,” said Sparrow.

Sparrow became the 104-year-old paper’s first female publisher in 2012, after previously serving as the circulation director for 10 years.

“I’m leaving them in a very good place, and ready to move forward. I have zero concerns about the future of the Citizen.”

Under Sparrow, the Citizen has undergone numerous changes including switching from a paid daily newspaper to a free weekly.

Glacier Media, the company that owns The Citizen, is opting to leave the publisher and GM roles vacant at the moment.

“I’m not going anywhere! I’m not leaving town!” added Sparrow.
