Giscome Elementary remains closed, students to attend Blackburn following train derailment

Following a CN train derailing last week prompting Giscome Elementary School to evacuate and close, SD 57 is continuing to reroute students to Blackburn Elementary until further notice.

Upper Fraser Road reopened yesterday (Saturday) but the School District says site clean up is expected to take up most of this week.

“Giscome Elementary School will remain closed until clean-up is completed and it is safe to return to the school,” said Spokesperson Jason Peters.

Buses will pick up students at regular times, and they will be taken to Blackburn, but students will return home ‘a little later than usual.’

Prince George Secondary Students will also be picked up and dropped off at their regular scheduled times.

Staff from Diversified Transportation and School District No. 57 will inform Giscome Elementary parents of their arrival times tomorrow (Monday).

More information is available on district and school websites.
