A few of the nine Prince George Athletes returned home with medals from the 2020 Special Olympics Winter Games in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Danny Lafreniere and Josh Pudney both won gold in cross-country skiing while Barbie Conway’s relay team took home a bronze medal.
In addition, Audrey Nelson captured a silver medal in five-pin bowling.
Spokesperson, Wilma Van Hage told MyPGNow.com it was an enjoyable event.
“It’s an amazing experience because they are competing against everybody from across Canada including the Northwest Territories. It’s just huge for them and for most of them it was their first time.”
Team BC Coach, Misty Pagliaro had nothing but good things to say about the event.
“The volunteers were outstanding and the whole community was behind the games. Whenever we walked downtown there was the honking of horns and people waving, they all knew we were here to perform at our best.”
The Special Olympic games operate on a four-year cycle.
