Hwy 97 cracks “Top 10 Deadliest” list twice

Prince George has made the top 12 list for the province’s deadliest highways – twice.

Based on data collected by ICBC from 2004 to 2013, PG made it in at #5 for the “Cariboo Connector” along Highway 97 with 27 fatal crashes, while the Prince George – Chetwynd route also along Highway 97 made the list at #10 with 24 fatal crashes.

ICBC’s data shows that the summer is actually the deadliest time of year to drive along BC’s highways, with the majority of crashes happening between June to August.

Kamloops-Sorrento (Highway 1: 24 fatal crashes)
Prince George-Chetwynd (Highway 97: 24 fatal crashes)
Hope-Princeton (Highway 3: 24 fatal crashes)
Hope-Lillooet (Highway 1 & 12: 25 fatal crashes)
Nanaimo-Courtenay (Highway 19: 26 fatal crashes)
Surrey-Abbotsford (Highway 1: 26 fatal crashes)
Prince George-Quesnel (Highway 97: 27 fatal crashes)
Fort St. John-Fort Nelson (Highway 97: 30 fatal crashes)
Merritt-Hope (Highway 5: 32 fatal crashes)
Burnaby-Mission (Highway 7: 33 fatal crashes)
Revelstoke-Golden (Highway 1: 38 fatal crashes)
