UNBC Nursing students host “Anti-Valentine’s Dance”

If you want to check out an event this weekend that isn’t necessarily “couples themed”, the UNBC nursing program has you covered.

Friday evening, they’re holding the “Black Hearts Anti-Valentines Day Dinner and Dance” with a silent auction benefiting UNBC’s nursing program.

Fourth-year student Gayle Mccue says money raised will go toward their club.

“They can use it as they see fit,” she says. “It’s a really nice lab, it really just could use a bit more stuff to help the nurses learn, so that’s what we want to contribute to the students following us.”

Proceeds will also go towards various programs downtown, like the Aboriginal Infant and Development Centre.

“They do a lot for families all through the development stages, young parents, children, and it just sounds like they’re a really busy program,” Mccue says. “The Adult Day Centre is operated for adults that can go out and spend a day there, and there’s someone there to care for them, it’s a nice bit of socialization for them.”

As for the event itself, McCue says “We’re going to have roast beef, vegetarian lasagna, all the fixings, salads, deserts. The dance, the music is provided by DJ Nige, who knows how to throw quite a good party.”

The dinner and dance starts at the Hart Community Centre at 6:30 p.m..
