Mr. PG’s 60th, emergency programs update, highlight council agenda

The famous ‘Mr. PG’ statue is turning 60 this year, and Prince George City Council will be hearing about the birthday celebrations at this week’s council meeting.

Council will also hear the monthly building and development permit summary and an emergency program update.

The update will take a look at things like evacuation zones, and testing a hazardous waste response.

A Select Committee on a Safe, Clean and Inclusive Community will be proposing a service enhancement, including police patrols, security gates for parkades, and staff to clean up and dispose of debris.

In addition, Alder Hills Golf Course is looking to enhance its current liquor license.

Two properties are also set to become heritage buildings: the Nielson House on 2280 McBride Cresent, and the Buchan House at 2755 Hammond Avenue.

These homes, built in the late ’50s, are examples of the first Post-WWII architecture in Prince George.

Mayor Lyn Hall is also introducing a student mentorship opportunity.
