“Diversity” the main message from the Throne

The spring session of the legislature kicked off Tuesday with a speech from the Lieutenant Governor.

Honourable Judith Guichon urged the house to back the Liberals’ plan to kickstart the long-awaited liquid natural gas industry in the province, saying it would mean more jobs and boost the province’s Jobs Plan, creating 100,000 jobs.

Guichon also touted the province’s diversity of industry, saying the forestry, mining, and agriculture sectors can protect the province’s economy during these uncertain times with sagging oil and gas prices.

The opposition was quick to find holes in the speech, as House Opposition Leader Mike Farnworth says the Liberals bet too heavily on LNG and Green MLA Andrew Weaver responded saying the province “needs a whole new vision”.
