PG Snow and Ice crews facing heavy workload following snowfall

Priority One and Two routes are being cleared after significant snowfall the past two days according to the City of Prince George.

Crews returned to the routes last night  (Tuesday) following more snow than expected and will continue to clear the remaining roads before moving on to residential areas in Priority Three.

The city said temperatures, weather systems, and total snow accumulation affect operations, timelines, and decisions about equipment deployment.

“We would say that it’s been an average year, for Prince George, we have had an average amount of snowfall,” said Communications Officer Michael Kellett.

He explained it’s been business as usual, but the first heavy snowfall event of the year proved to be tough.

“We had about 25 or so centimeters of snow just a few weeks back. That was a bit of a challenge for crews just because of the sheer volume of it.”

Council’s Snow and Ice Control Bylaw categorizes the City’s 735km of roads and 189km of sidewalks into three snow-clearing priority routes.
