PG Airport prepares for Winter Games rush

The Prince George Airport is getting ready for its busiest days ever, this week.

Starting Thursday, Spokesperson Lindsay Cotter says traffic will increase by 230% as athletes arrive, though the busiest day of all will be Saturday, February 21st, which she says will be a ‘transition day’ where week one athletes leave and week two athletes arrive; YXS predicts the increase to be around 325% over their usual daily traffic numbers.

Cotter points to a number of improvements throughout the terminal to streamline travel for athletes, with multi -use seating in the Departure Lounge, and more additional flights added, along with more rental vehicles and longer hours for the BG Urban Grill.

Cuyler Green is the Director of Operations for the Airport Authority and says extra support is in place for snow removal and more representatives from Transport Canada and Nav Canada will be on-hand to help staff and minimize the impact for regular travellers.
