Poverty reduction, water conservation, UNBC garden expansion on PG Council agenda

Prince George City Council will have three big talking points this week beginning with a presentation from the David Douglas Botanical Garden Society (DDBGS) on a proposed garden expansion.

The expansion would include the completion of several ornamental ‘themed’ gardens, development of marsh wetlands, selective clearing in the Indigenous forest for shade-tolerant plants, a research garden expansion, and a visitor center expansion.

The next item on the list is a $25,000 funding request for UBCM’s 2020 Poverty Reduction Planning & Action Program.

The idea is to plan and implement a community engagement strategy to gather feedback on recommendations proposed by the Select Committee on Poverty Reduction.

Lastly, is a grant application under the Green Municipal Fund Pilot project for water conservation retrofits.

The project will see water conservation measures implemented at buildings like the CN Centre, Civic Centre, and Elksentre.

This is a part of the 2016 Water Conservation Plan to reduce Prince George’s water consumption by 20% by 2026.

The meeting will be at 6 pm.
