The BC Natural Resource Forum starts in Prince George today (Tuesday), and wraps up on Thursday.
It’s held every year to provide an update on the resource sector in the province and a networking opportunity for those who work in forestry, mining, energy.
“The forum is bringing over 1200 people together who work in the natural resources sector, including Indigenous leaders and government. People are coming together to discuss the health, challenges, and opportunities in the sector,” explained Sarah Weber, President CEO of C3 Alliance Corp.
The 2020 theme is ‘Strengthening BC’s Competitive Advantage’ in the resources sector.
“BC is blessed with abundant natural resources. We could be a leader in providing the world with low carbon projects.”
“What we want to do is discuss how we can access overseas markets,” Weber said.
Weber believes the forum is valuable for resource workers because it offers a chance to share ideas.
“I think there’s a lot of frustration from resource workers. There are projects that have come along slower than anticipated,” she noted.
“However, what we’ve found was there is a lot of support across the province for developing the resource sector.”
The 3-day forum includes a tradeshow, 8 keynote speakers including Premier John Horgan, several workshops, discussion panels, and networking opportunities.
According to the forum, last year’s event was record-breaking, with over 1100 participants, with an estimated economic impact of $2.5 million.
“We are tracking about 1o percent ahead of where we were last year, so we are definitely feeling the stress and the pressure of making sure everyone has a roof over their heads.”
