Prince George City Council rubber-stamped a funding request for this year’s Canadian Native Fastball Championships at Monday’s meeting.
The tournament will be held from July 31st to August 3rd, with over 1200 athletes representing 80 teams.
The organizing committee asked council for a total of $48,133 to cover equipment, rental, and maintenance costs for the competition.
$21,833 of the total amount would be put towards a new backstop and fencing to adapt ball fields to major event hosting standards.
Councilor Garth Frizzell noted the significance of bringing a major event like this to the city.
“We are going to have the city full, the hotels will be full, the restaurants will be full. People will get a chance to experience Prince George, and see what we are like.”
This year will mark the second time PG has hosted the event, the first was in 2016.
