Library and Archives Canada is providing a total of $2.3 million to support 31 projects by First Nations, Inuit, and Métis organizations through the Listen, Hear Our Voices initiatives.
The Carrier Sekani Tribal Council in Prince George will receive $9,990 towards the Niz Dak’ez ‘et Duhont’e’ (That’s how it was in the time past) project.
The Sai’Kuz First Nation will get one hundred thousand dollars for the translation and digitization of the Saik’uz Dakelh language archives.
The project aims to help preserve existing culture and language recordings and make them more accessible.
“As we continue our work with Indigenous partners on the path toward reconciliation, initiatives such as this illustrate our government’s ongoing commitment to support Indigenous communities in preserving First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures and languages for future generations,” said Minister of Canadian Heritage Steven Guilbeault.
LAC is currently accepting proposals for the 2020–2021 funding cycle of the Documentary Heritage Communities Program.
The deadline to submit applications is January 7, 2020.
