UPDATE: The Outdoor Ice Oval is anticipating a slightly delayed opening later today (Friday) due to heavy snowfall.

“We’re probably going to aim for a noon opening, which should give the guys a chance to clear it off. We have a full crew going down there this morning. It’s all volunteer work and we do what we can,” explained Chief Icemaker Lyle Dickieson.

After closing down on Tuesday, December 31st, the Prince George Outdoor Ice Oval is set to reopen again tomorrow (Friday).

“We’ve got it all pretty much fixed up, we should be open by the morning but it all depends on how big this snowfall is that they’re predicting for tonight,” said Dickieson.

“When we’re open, our skater turnout has been great.”

Dickieson commented that the early season is especially hard on the Oval due to the lack of a solid base.

He added that the lack of a refrigerated ice surface is partially responsible for this season’s unpredictable schedule.

Up-to-date information on closures, schedules, and more can be found on Facebook.
