Prince George’s population just grew by one.
The first baby born in the north is a baby girl, born at the University Hospital of Northern BC in Prince George.
Aubrey Nellis was born at 12:21 am weighing 7lbs 14oz to parents Tiffany and Clayton Nellis.
Aubrey was also welcomed by two big brothers: Jayvin (14) and Hayden Logan (11).
Northern Health Regional Manager Eryn Collins said she doesn’t know where the New Year’s baby tradition came from, but it has become beloved.
“I think it would depend on the family but I think it’s kind of the best ever contest every year,” she said.
“Everybody gets to go home with a brand new baby regardless, but I think it just makes it that more special.”
The first baby born in the province in 2020 was a girl, delivered at Fraser Health’s Royal Columbian Hospital, just 20 minutes earlier.
