Tenth Ethan Blacker Memorial Tournament to take place this weekend

The volunteer-run tournament invites PeeWee House players from communities such as Prince George, Quesnel and Mackenzie to play in commemoration of Ethan Blacker who passed away in 2009.

“Every year a new group of players gets to come and participate in the tournament and celebrate his memory. They learn a little bit about what Ethan was like,” explained Mick Harper, Media Coordinator for the 10th Annual Ethan Blacker Tournament.

Harper expressed the significance of the event for the Blacker family, while also emphasizing the importance for the players saying: “they get more ice time, they get to play some pretty competitive games, but they also get to remember that they are some of the lucky ones.”

A food drive will also be held alongside the tournament, with proceeds going to the Prince George Salvation Army, and attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate.

The tournament is sanctioned by the PG Minor Hockey Association and will run from December 27th until the 29th.

Games will be held at the Kin Centres and the CN Centre.

More information can be found on the Minor Hockey in Prince George Facebook page.
