The YMCA of Northern BC wants to offer free memberships to 6th graders across Prince George.
Its all part of the 2015 Canada Winter Games legacy programs, and will support the health and well being of the youth in town.
Colleen Bush is a coordinator for recreational services and explained the reasoning behind the decision:
“We chose sixth graders because it it such a pivotal age where they are faced with quite a few decisions which can impact their development into becoming healthy teens”
Bush says they have already seen tremendous interest from families who already use the Y’s services, and says they hope to engage around 300 students by the end of the school year.
