2019 a year of challenges for School District 57: Board Chair

Capacity issues continued to be a talking point during 2019 for School District 57.

This led to some very important catchment area changes that were made in fall.

SD 57 Board Chair Tim Bennett did a Year-In-Review interview with MyPGNow.com.

“A lot of our schools are nearing or are already at capacity, earlier in 2019, the board approved the changes to the DP Todd family of schools moving both Edgewood and Spruceland to them and away from Duchess Park.”

The lone exception is that if you are an Edgewood or Spruceland student that has a sibling attending Duchess Park, you can join them instead of going to DP Todd.

Bennett is also excited for what’s to come next fall on the new Kelly Road Secondary School.

“Another highlight for the next year will be the opening of the new Kelly Road Secondary for 2020. The building is still on time and on budget and we’re going to be excited to welcome staff, the community, and our students into the new Kelly Road for September.”

He adds the new year will also mark the start date for new superintendent Anita Richardson who replaces Marilyn Marquis Forster.

“I think anytime there is a change in your superintendent there is impacts to the district but we are very fortunate to have an incredible staff and senior team at the board office to continue to ensure the day to day operations of the district move forward.”
