With the official start of winter yesterday (Saturday), Prince George residents are well into the flu season.
However, Pharmacy Manager Zach Stevens maintains its not too late to get vaccinated, if you can find a supply.
“Its been a roller coaster of a season in terms of flu supply, for various reasons.”
Stevens warned that close-quarters holiday gatherings may offer opportunities for spreading infection, especially amongst those most vulnerable, defined as: “the very young, the very old, and those with chronic conditions.”
Herd immunity remains a major benefit of vaccination, as “even if not every single individual is vaccinated, with a certain percentage vaccinated it helps to protect those who maybe can’t be.”
A cursory survey of local pharmacies indicates that limited quantities of vaccinations are still available for those who want them.
Anyone interested in receiving their flu shot is encouraged to contact their family doctor or local pharmacy.
