Filmmaker is hoping to tell the story of PG

Filmmaker Ze Helios’s latest project will be a documentary on Prince George.

Helios’ documentary, A Piece of History, How it all Started in Prince George, is currently in pre-production as he focuses on collecting historical documents.

The project, which was conceived as apart of the Telus Storyhive initiative, snowballed from concept into an online docuseries.

“The more I dug, the more I got excited… I realized there’s a beautiful story to tell here,” said Helios.

A Piece of History looks to blend historical accounts of the city with modern perspectives to properly show the development of Prince George’s civic identity.

Despite moving in and out of Prince George for over fifteen years, Ze explained that he has still been surprised by many of the things he has learned while researching for the documentary.

“To be honest with you, I didn’t know that there’s so much history here. These little towns are like gems in Canada, and not many people know about them.”

While Ze has received $20,000 from Telus, he intends to reach out to sponsors within the community, and potentially apply for further funding.
