City seeking applications for new Select Committee on A Safe, Clean, and Inclusive Downtown

Prince George is looking for applications by individuals interested in joining the Safe, Clean, and Inclusive Downtown committee announced at last night’s (Monday) council meeting.

The city is looking for up to five community members to work on the committee for a term of six months, beginning in January of the new year.

The committee’s purpose is to advise council and city staff on what is required to address social issues throughout the city, with a focus on the Downtown core.

During last night’s meeting, council established the project and its parameters.

Mayor Lyn Hall will Chair the Committee, which will include, representatives from the Prince George Chamber of Commerce, Downtown PG, Gateway Business Improvement Association, Prince George RCMP, Northern Health Authority, BC Housing, Association Advocating for Women and Community, and Prince George Native Friendship Centre.

The group will hold its first meeting next month and will deliver its recommendations to city council by June 30.

“Council has heard clearly from residents that social issues affecting the city – the downtown in particular – are a matter of immediate concern,” said Mayor Hall.

“This new committee is in direct response to that public feedback and the input of the business community, which is why the makeup of the committee is going to feature representatives from the general public, the business community, and many of the organizations with a direct stake in the outcome.”

Information on the committee, including its Terms of Reference and application forms, are available on the City’s website.

The application deadline is January 3rd.
