Local snowboarders had mixed results at the Montafon International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup snowboarding event which wrapped up today (Saturday) in Austria.
“I finished 44th out of 65 competitors. I’m hoping to improve that position in the next two world cups. Things are going in the right direction going into next season,” explained Canadian National Development Team’s Evan Bichon.
Bichon shares a coach with Colby Graham, another local prospect who competed in the same event. Graham finished in the 59th position.
Another PG local and member of the Canadian National Snowboarding Team, Meryeta O’Dine, finished 17th out of 29 in the female division.
Tess Critchlow, who was born in Prince George, raised in Kelowna and lives in North Vancouver, was 14th among the women.
These athletes will be competing next week at another World Cup event hosted in Italy at the Breuil-Cervinia resort which features several mountains, including the world-famous Matterhorn.
In early 2020, Bichon said that he will be competing in “a world cup competition at Big White in BC, which is the first world cup Canada has hosted in about seven years,”.
2021 will be the Olympic qualifying year for the FIS World Cup events, with participants hoping to compete in the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, China.
