Problem gambling is being targeted by the BC government with help from the ministries of health and education and the BC lotto corporation.
Although it looks as if problem gambling is on the decline since last year, the findings of the 2014 problem Gambling Prevalence study found that one third of at risk and problem gamblers experience serious mental health issues at some point in their lives and are often substance abusers.
As a result, 21 commitment guidelines have been released over four separate themes, which includes the continuation of responsible gambling measures, prevention among youth, gambling treatment and research into online gambling issues.
The BC lottery corporation has agreed to work closely with the government in order to implement the items involved, and the plan itself will look at reducing BC’s 3.3% of problem gamblers even further after a drop of over 1% last year.
