This year marks the first holiday season for The Ministry of Transportation’s new, stricter regulations for party buses and limousines.
This year, passenger transportation enforcement officers conducted more checks than in the previous three years combined.
Under the new regulations, which went into effect in September, the harshest penalty includes a fine of up to $50,000.
Other rules specifically target minors travelling in party buses and limousines.
Changes include parental consent forms, as well as trained safety monitors on-board alongside unaccompanied minors.
In addition, the ministry, in a statement, reminded the public that it is illegal to consume alcohol and cannabis inside of a vehicle, with RCMP carrying out focused enforcement.
