An upcoming event at UNBC will be presenting some of the most exciting developments in care for the elderly.
Shannon Freeman, Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at UNBC, said they’ll be showcasing technology leaders across the AGE-WELL network who will be sharing their latest findings on technology to support older adults.
“We have guests speakers coming from Ontario and Vancouver talking about the latest technology and innovation looking at predicting and preventing falls. They’ll be talking about sensor technology as well,” said Freeman. “Steadiwear, a Canadian Tech startup, will also be showcasing a Steadone glove, a lightweight, compact glove designed for persons with Parkinson’s disease or tremors in their hands.”
The event is free to the public and Freeman said they’re hoping anyone who is interested in technology and aging will come.
“The general purpose is to get the conversation started about technology to support aging and older persons in northern BC in rural and northern communities. We are really wanting to start the conversation about how technology-based solutions can help increase safety and security, support independence and enhance social participation for older persons in the north here.”
The event is being held at UNBC on Wednesday, November 6th, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m.
